Hamamatsu Photonics specifically developed Microfocus X-ray sources (MFX) for 2D and 3D non-destructive testing. Microfocus units refer to x-ray sources in which the focal spot size is less than 100 µm.
They are characterized by a small focal spot, which prevents blurring (negligible penumbra effect) of x-ray images and delivers a sharp, enlarged image, up to 1000x magnification and higher.
We offer a wide range of products, both sealed and open type sources, allowing you to work in almost any application possible. With an x-ray tube voltage from 20 to 300 kV you can inspect alloy wheels, small animals and every kind of electrical components: PCBs, ICs and batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries (LiB) are widely employed as power source of electric vehicles (as substitutes of gasoline engines) or as batteries for smartphones and tablet terminals.
X-ray inspection, aimed at ensuring the quality of LiBs, is becoming more critical due to the increasing demand for LiBs. Hamamatsu Photonics’ R&D department developed MFXs specifically thought for this application. Based on the dimensions and materials used, we can offer you dedicated products. For example, among the others:
- L9181-05 is designed for daily cylindrical batteries thanks to the 130 kV maximum operating voltage and extremely small (4 µm) focal spot size;
- L14351-02, on the other end, is projected for bigger batteries because of the higher power and voltage.
Employing Microfocus X-ray sources is necessary for high-resolution and high-speed inspection but it has to be combined with an X-ray TDI camera, allowing making the most out of these breathtaking products.
